Agreement with COBA to develop an administrative management system

Montréal, March 18, 2014 – Cégep à distance is pleased to announce that it signed an agreement with COBA on March 13 to acquire, design, develop, install, and support a teaching management system specifically suited to its needs.

“I am very happy with this agreement, which will give us a new administrative system by June 2015,” explained Cégep à distance director Louis-René Dessureault. “The system underlies the very heart of our activities – the management of all student-related activities, from admission to graduation. This is part of the overhaul of our digital environment, which is central to our positioning plan for the years ahead.”

COBA, which won the contract after a call for offers, will set up a web-based system specifically designed to meet the particular needs of Cégep à distance, including admission and registration, academic monitoring, tutoring, financial aid, the processing and shipping of course materials, communications management, financial management, and reporting.

“We are enthusiastic about COBA’s diligence and approach to the project,” added Benoit Morin, the project manager at Cégep à distance. “The work is already underway, and we’re optimistic that our objectives will be achieved, in terms of both the quality of the product and the delivery date.”

COBA, a subsidiary of Berger-Levrault, the tenth largest software publisher in France, is already working with several other CEGEPs.

Cégep à distance is an integral part of the Collège de Rosemont, offering programs in French that lead to a diploma of college studies (DEC, for its French acronym) or an attestation of college studies (AEC, for its French acronym). Some courses are also offered in English. Every year, some 18,000 people register for one or more of the 140 credit courses offered in French and English, for a total of 28,000 course registrations. All courses are offered in the continuous registration model.
